We strongly believe in tradition and in the value of time.
For this reason, ageing is an essential part of our winemaking philosophy, carefully designed to preserve the identity and authenticity of each vintage.
Our wines begin their journey in large Slavonian oak barrels, the ideal environment for the ageing of “La Mannella” Rosso, Brunello and Brunello Riserva. These large casks allow for extended maturation while preserving the purity of the fruit and the wine’s varietal character, without overwhelming it with excessive oak influence.
Each vintage evolves differently, and for this reason the ageing period is never predetermined, but adapted according to the character and balance of the wine itself. In most cases, our wines spend no less than three years in wood, achieving elegance, depth and harmony over time.
Brunello “Poggiarelli”, on the other hand, follows a different path, ageing for approximately 24 months in French oak tonneaux. This choice allows the wine to reach a refined balance between freshness, structure and complexity.
We believe that true excellence comes from simplicity, patience and respect for tradition.
Our estate extends across 56 hectares, of which approximately 8 hectares are dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino. The vineyards are divided between two distinct areas: the northern slopes surrounding the winery and the south-eastern sector of the estate.
Originally cultivated as a single territory to produce one Brunello, the estate revealed over time the remarkable differences between these two vineyard areas. In the late 1990s, Marco recognized that each soil possessed its own unique identity and expressive potential. From this vision came the decision to vinify the vineyards separately, giving life to two distinct interpretations of Brunello di Montalcino.
“La Mannella” originates from soils rich in clay and sandstone, while “I Poggiarelli” comes from rockier terrain rich in marl. These different terroirs create wines with profoundly distinct personalities, aromas and sensations, each capable of expressing a unique side of Montalcino.
Driven by a deep respect for the land and an increasingly precise approach to viticulture, every vineyard parcel is now cultivated and vinified individually. This careful work allows each cru to fully reveal its character, transforming diversity into identity.
Today, La Mannella and I Poggiarelli represent two complementary expressions of the same passion: wines united by craftsmanship and tradition, yet deeply different in style, emotion and character.
